Topstep payout rules across XFA Standard, XFA Consistency and Live Funded Accounts

Across Topstep's Express Funded Accounts (XFA) and Live Funded Accounts (LFA), every payout request shares a $125 minimum and a 90/10 profit split (traders who joined the new dashboard before January 12, 2026 keep 100% of their first $10,000 in lifetime profits). On an XFA, you can request up to 50% of your account balance per payout, up to a cap set by size and path ($2,000 / $3,000 / $5,000 Standard and $3,000 / $4,000 / $6,000 Consistency on 50K / 100K / 150K), once your path's day rule is satisfied: 5 winning days of $150+ net P&L on the Standard path, or 3 trading days with at least 1 trade each and no single day above 40% of net profit on the Consistency path. The caps double if you added a Daily Loss Limit at checkout of a new Trading Combine, which Topstep runs as a limited-time offer. Crucially, taking your first XFA payout permanently sets your Maximum Loss Limit (MLL) to $0, so whatever balance remains in the account becomes your entire loss buffer. A Live Funded Account works differently: it starts with 20% of the XFA balance that transfers (at least $10,000, with the transfer capped at the LFA size), the other 80% is held in Reserve and unlocks in four 25% steps as you hit the LFA's profit target, payouts come only from the unlocked balance, and an LFA that drops below $1,000 may be liquidated and closed at the end of the day.

Why Topstep recommends reaching a $2,000–$4,500 balance before Payout 1

Before your first withdrawal on a 50K Express Funded Account, your Maximum Loss Limit starts at -$2,000 and trails your end-of-day balance until it locks at $0 once the balance reaches $2,000 ($3,000 on 100K, $4,500 on 150K). If you request a payout early—for example taking $870 from a $1,740 balance—the MLL jumps from -$260 straight to $0, cutting your breathing room from $2,000 down to the $870 left in the account. Waiting until your balance clears the initial MLL amount means your floor is already at $0, so you forfeit zero negative MLL headroom.

Method and privacy

Method: The XFA balance starts at $0 with an end-of-day trailing Maximum Loss Limit (−$2,000 on 50K, −$3,000 on 100K, −$4,500 on 150K) that stops trailing at $0 once the balance reaches that amount, and the first payout sets it to $0. Standard XFA needs 5 winning days of $150+ since the last payout; Consistency XFA needs 3 trading days with 1+ trade each and bestDay ÷ cycleProfit ≤ 0.40. Each request is min(balance × 0.50, size cap): Standard $2,000/$3,000/$5,000, Consistency $3,000/$4,000/$6,000, doubled when a Daily Loss Limit was added at checkout of a new Trading Combine (Topstep's limited-time offer). A Live Funded Account has no cap: 50% of the unlocked balance, or any amount once a day after 30 LFA winning days, with a warning below the $1,000 line where Topstep may close the LFA. Rules as Topstep's help center words them, read 2026-10-22.

Common questions

What happens to my Topstep Maximum Loss Limit (MLL) when I request my first XFA payout?

When you request your first payout from a Topstep Express Funded Account (XFA), your Maximum Loss Limit permanently moves to $0—even if your EOD balance had not yet reached +$2,000 (50K), +$3,000 (100K), or +$4,500 (150K). After the withdrawal is deducted, whatever cash remains in your XFA above $0 is your entire remaining loss allowance.

How much can I withdraw per payout on a Topstep Express Funded Account vs a Live Funded Account?

On an XFA, each request can be up to 50% of your account balance, capped by size and path: $2,000 / $3,000 / $5,000 on the Standard path and $3,000 / $4,000 / $6,000 on the Consistency path for 50K / 100K / 150K, doubled if you added a Daily Loss Limit at checkout of a new Trading Combine (a limited-time offer). The minimum request is $125. A Live Funded Account has no dollar cap: up to 50% of the unlocked balance per request, and after 30 winning days of $150+ in the LFA, any amount of the unlocked balance once a day. Moving to Live isn't tied to a payout count: Topstep's Risk Team decides case by case.

What is the Topstep profit split on Express Funded Accounts?

Topstep's profit split is 90/10: you keep 90% of every payout. Traders who joined the new Topstep dashboard before January 12, 2026 receive 100% of their first $10,000 in lifetime profits, then 90/10; payouts from the Legacy dashboard don't count toward that $10,000. ACH and wire payouts also carry a $30 fee; Aeropay and Wise carry no Topstep fee, though your bank or the service may charge.

How does Topstep's 55% Trading Combine consistency target differ from XFA payout rules?

In the Trading Combine, your best day should stay at or below 55% of your profit target (under $1,650 on the 50K's $3,000 target). If it goes over, the target rises to best day ÷ 0.55, so you need more profit to pass. Once funded, the XFA Standard path has no consistency rule (5 winning days of $150+), and only the Consistency path keeps the largest day at or below 40% of the net profit since the last payout, over at least 3 trading days.

How long does a Topstep payout usually take?

Topstep says internal approval can take 1-3 business days. After approval, Prop-to-Brokerage payouts arrive the same day if requested by 12 PM CT (US only), Aeropay is instant after approval at US banks that support real-time payments, Wise (China, Canada and the UK) and ACH take 1-3 business days, and a wire takes 5-10 business days. Processing times exclude weekends and holidays, and requests can be made during CME market hours, Sunday 5 PM CT to Friday 5 PM CT.

Can Topstep deny a payout?

Yes. Before approving a request, Topstep reviews it against the Payout Policy requirements, its Prohibited Conduct, Terms of Use and Professional Behavior rules, and its Prohibited Trading Strategies, so a request that breaks them isn't approved. Payouts also go only to a bank account in your own name. Hitting the Daily Loss Limit doesn't cancel eligibility, but you can't request until the temporary violation lifts at the next session.

How much can I lose on a 50K Topstep funded account?

A 50K Express Funded Account starts at a $0 balance with its Maximum Loss Limit at −$2,000, so at first you can lose up to $2,000. The limit trails your end-of-day balance up and locks at $0 once the balance reaches $2,000, and your first payout sets it to $0 anyway; from then on, the balance left in the account is all you can lose. It is enforced in real time, unrealized P&L included. A Daily Loss Limit is optional on the XFA. A 50K Live Funded Account starts with a $2,000 Daily Loss Limit and may be closed if its balance drops below $1,000.

How much profit do I need for a payout on a $150K Topstep account?

To pass the $150K Trading Combine you need its $9,000 profit target, with your best day under $4,950 so the 55% rule doesn't raise it. The funded Express Funded Account has no profit target: a payout needs 5 winning days of $150+ (Standard) or 3 trading days with the largest day at or below 40% of net profit (Consistency), and 50% of the balance must reach the $125 minimum. Topstep recommends first reaching the balance where the Maximum Loss Limit sits at $0, which is $4,500 on 150K. Each request is capped at $5,000 (Standard) or $6,000 (Consistency).
