How does the contract size change your US30 and NAS100 lot size?
The single most common sizing mistake on FTMO, FundedNext, and The5ers happens when a trader switches between a broker where 1.00 lot = 1 index contract ($1/pt) and a broker where 1.00 lot = 10 or 100 contracts ($10/pt or $100/pt). Entering 5.00 lots on a 50-point US30 stop risks $250 on a 1-contract specification, but risks $2,500 on a 10-contract specification—the whole 5% daily loss limit of a $50,000 account on a single trade.
| Account and risk budget (0.5%) | Stop distance | 1 CFD a lot ($1/pt) | 10 CFDs a lot ($10/pt) | 20 CFDs a lot ($20/pt) | 100 CFDs a lot ($100/pt) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $25,000 ($125 risk) | 50 pts | 2.50 lots | 0.25 lots | 0.12 lots | 0.02 lots |
| $50,000 ($250 risk) | 50 pts | 5.00 lots | 0.50 lots | 0.25 lots | 0.05 lots |
| $100,000 ($500 risk) | 50 pts | 10.00 lots | 1.00 lot | 0.50 lots | 0.10 lots |
| $200,000 ($1,000 risk) | 50 pts | 20.00 lots | 2.00 lots | 1.00 lot | 0.20 lots |
GER40, UK100 and JP225 move one euro, pound or yen a point per contract. The calculator converts that to dollars at example rates ($1.08 per EUR, $1.30 per GBP, $0.0067 per JPY), not live rates. Check the point value in your broker's contract specification: it is the authority.
