Why leverage multiplies crypto perpetual Maker, Taker and funding fees
Perpetual futures exchanges charge Maker, Taker and funding fees on your total leveraged notional size, not on the collateral margin in your wallet. At Bybit's non-VIP rates (read 2026-10-22), entering and exiting a 20× position with market orders (0.055% Taker + 0.055% Taker = 0.11% of notional) deducts 2.20% of your margin before slippage or funding is counted. Switching your entry to a post-only limit order (0.020% Maker) cuts that exchange fee by about 32% (0.110% → 0.075%); making both legs limit orders cuts it by about 64% (0.040%).
| Leverage | Taker + Taker (0.110% notional) | Maker + Taker (0.075% notional) | Maker + Maker (0.040% notional) | 24h funding (3 × 0.01%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5× | 0.55% of margin | 0.375% of margin | 0.20% of margin | 0.15% of margin |
| 10× | 1.10% of margin | 0.75% of margin | 0.40% of margin | 0.30% of margin |
| 20× | 2.20% of margin | 1.50% of margin | 0.80% of margin | 0.60% of margin |
| 50× | 5.50% of margin | 3.75% of margin | 2.00% of margin | 1.50% of margin |
