Read as text
  1. Example rate: −10 points on 1.00 lot EUR/USD. One point is 0.00001 × 100,000 = $1, so each rollover costs −$10.00.
  2. This example models Monday–Friday rollovers with no separate weekend charge. One weekday, here Wednesday, counts three times: −$30.00. Other broker schedules are not modelled.
  3. In this model, a position held Monday to the next Monday crosses five rollovers, charged as 7 nights: −$70.00.
  4. Opened Monday, held 5 nights: Mon ×1, Tue ×1, Wed ×3, Thu ×1, Fri ×1, 7 nights charged, −$70.00.
  5. Which weekday is tripled matters for short holds: Wednesday to Thursday pays 3 nights (−$30.00) on a Wednesday-triple symbol and 1 (−$10.00) on a Friday-triple one.

MT5 lists the swap type in the symbol's Specification. Percentage swaps are not covered here.

Negative is a charge, positive a credit, as your broker shows them.

Count the Monday–Friday rollovers the position is held through, not calendar nights.

Commonly Wednesday for forex and Friday for some CFDs, but it is your broker's convention: check the symbol's specification.

This model uses Monday–Friday rollovers with one selected ×3 day, or none. Weekend charges, other daily multipliers and holiday adjustments are not modelled; check your broker's schedule before using the total.

Use the symbol's quote point (SYMBOL_POINT), not its minimum trading increment (Tick size). A point is 0.00001 on a five-digit quote, 0.001 on a three-digit JPY quote, and 0.01 on a two-digit gold quote.

Enter the swap long and swap short your broker quotes for this symbol today. In MT5: right-click the symbol in Market Watch → Specification.

Swap rates change as interest rates and broker terms change, often daily, and differ between brokers and account types. The calculation applies the rate you enter to every night.

The math — swap = points × point size × contract size × lots × nights

How is swap calculated? Four worked examples

Rate × point value × nights charged: −10 points on 1.00 lot EURUSD is −$10.00 a night, −$70.00 a week.

EURUSD, USDJPY, gold and a swap quoted in money

The swap rates below are round numbers chosen to show the arithmetic. They are not any broker's rates and not the market's: real swaps change with interest rates and broker terms, so use your broker's current figures in the calculator.

1. EURUSD, swap in points, USD account. One point is 0.00001 × 100,000 = $1 per 1.00 lot. At −10 points, 1.00 lot is −$10.00 a night and −$30.00 on the triple-swap night. Held Monday to Friday nights with the triple on Wednesday, that is 7 nights charged: −$70.00.

2. USDJPY, swap in points, USD account. One point is 0.001 × 100,000 = ¥100 per lot. At +15 points, 1.00 lot earns ¥1,500 a night; the account is in US dollars, the base currency, so divide by the price: at 150.00 that is +$10.00 a night and +$70.00 over the same week.

3. Gold (XAUUSD), swap in points. Quoted to two decimals, one point is 0.01; with a 100-ounce contract that is $1 per lot, so 0.10 lot at −50 points is −$5.00 a night and −$35.00 for the week. Gold contract sizes and quote digits differ between brokers.

4. Swap quoted in money. Some symbols show the swap as an amount per 1.00 lot in the account currency. At −7.50 per lot, 0.50 lot is −$3.75 a night and −$26.25 for the week; no point size or conversion is involved.

Which night is charged three times?

In this model, five weekday rollovers with one ×3 day are charged as seven nights.

RolloverMondayTuesdayWednesdayThursdayFridayNights charged
Triple on Wednesday×1×1×3×1×17
Triple on Friday×1×1×1×1×37
Why the triple day matters for short holds

This calculator models Monday–Friday rollovers with one selected day charged three times, or no triple day. Five rollovers with one ×3 day are charged as seven nights; choosing None charges five. It does not model separate weekend charges, other daily multipliers or holiday adjustments. Use it only when that schedule matches your broker and symbol.

With either Wednesday or Friday selected as the ×3 day, five weekday rollovers cost seven nights in this model. For a single Wednesday rollover, the Wednesday-triple setting charges three nights and the Friday-triple setting charges one. Check the symbol's specification and your broker's rollover schedule; the trade must cross its rollover time.

MetaQuotes documents separate swap multipliers for each day of the week, including Saturday and Sunday. The same reference distinguishes the symbol's point value from Tick size, the minimum price change. For swap quoted in points, use the point value in the calculator.

What does swap add up to over a month?

Twenty rollovers at the example rate: −$280.00, the same as a 28-pip move against 1.00 lot.

Rates change: track what you actually paid

Four weeks is twenty rollovers charged as 28 nights. At the example rate of −10 points on 1.00 lot EURUSD that is −$280.00, the same as a 28-pip move against the position, assuming the rate never changes. It will: swap rates are revised as interest rates and broker terms move, sometimes daily. For a position held for weeks, check the rate as you go and add the swap you actually paid to the trade's result in the forex profit calculator.

Why this page has no built-in swap rates

They differ by broker and account, and change with interest rates; the calculator asks for yours.

Where to find your rates in MT5

Swap differs between brokers and account types for the same symbol, changes as interest rates change, and can be revised without notice. A table of “typical” swaps would be wrong for most readers on most days, so the calculator starts empty and asks for the figures in your platform. In MT5 they are in the symbol's Specification, along with the swap type and the day charged three nights. Swap-free account terms, where offered, vary by broker and are not modelled here.

Method and privacy

Method: Swap per night = swap points × point size × contract size × lots, converted to your account currency with the price or rate you enter, or the money-per-lot rate × lots; the triple-swap night counts three times. Swap rates change often and differ by broker, so enter your broker's current figures.

Calculations run entirely in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded. Copy and download actions save your calculation locally. The site may record coarse tool actions under its privacy policy, without inputs, results, file contents or filenames.

Common questions

How is forex swap calculated?

Multiply the swap rate in points by the point size, the contract size and the lots, then convert to your account currency. With an example rate of −10 points on EURUSD, one point is 0.00001 × 100,000 = $1 per lot, so 1.00 lot is charged $10 a night and $30 on the triple-swap night. Your broker's rate will differ.

What is triple swap Wednesday?

Most spot currency pairs settle two business days after the trade, so holding through Wednesday's rollover moves settlement from Friday to Monday and covers the weekend. Many brokers therefore charge or credit three nights of swap on Wednesday; some CFDs on indices or commodities apply it on Friday instead. Your broker's symbol specification says which day.

How much swap do I pay to hold a trade for a week?

For this calculator's Monday–Friday model with one ×3 day, five rollovers are charged as seven nights. At the example rate of $10 a night on 1.00 lot, that is $70. With Wednesday selected, Monday to Thursday is four rollovers charged as six nights, $60. Choosing no triple day charges each weekday once. Weekend charges, other daily multipliers and holiday adjustments are not modelled; check your broker's schedule.

What is the difference between swap points and pips?

Swap in points uses the symbol's quote point (SYMBOL_POINT), not its minimum trading increment (Tick size). On a five-digit quote such as EURUSD at 1.10000 a point is 0.00001, a tenth of a pip; on a three-digit JPY quote it is 0.001; on gold quoted to two decimals it is 0.01. So a swap of −10 points on EURUSD is one pip: $10 per 1.00 lot on a USD account.

How is swap calculated on USDJPY or gold?

On USDJPY one point is 0.001 × 100,000 = ¥100 per lot, so a rate of 15 points is ¥1,500 a night; a USD account divides by the price, $10 at 150.00. On gold with a 100-ounce contract quoted to two decimals, one point is 0.01 × 100 = $1 per lot, so −50 points is $50 a night. These rates are examples, not quotes.

Why is swap negative on both long and short?

A swap reflects the interest-rate difference between the two currencies, adjusted by the broker's markup. When the difference is small, the markup can make both sides negative; when it is large, the side holding the higher-yielding currency may earn a credit. Rates move as interest rates and broker terms change.

Where do I find my broker's swap rates?

In MT5, right-click the symbol in Market Watch and open Specification: it lists swap long, swap short, the swap type and the day charged three nights. Rates can change daily, so check them before holding a position overnight. This calculator has no built-in rates; it uses the figures you enter.

Limits and trading risk

These tools calculate from your inputs, supported historical records or explicitly labelled teaching examples. They do not verify a live account, predict future returns or confirm that a broker or prop-firm rule has been met. Missing costs, floating losses and changed market conditions can materially change outcomes. Trading can lose the capital committed to it; check the stated method and your account specifications.
