FTMO 1-Step vs 2-Step calculator

Your risk, trades a day and best day, run through FTMO's two challenges rule by rule.

Updated 29 October 2026. Runs in your browser; nothing you type is uploaded.

Example: 4 losses at 1%, $100,000 1-Step$1,000 left today

A loss is 1R: 2 means your average win is twice your risk.

Your biggest closed-profit day, from your journal or a demo.

FTMO prices in euros. The ECB's reference rate on 28 Oct 2026: 1.1133.

  • A day of 3 full losses is 1.5%: inside both daily floors.
  • A 2% best day is at most half of the 10% target, so the 1-Step's rule asks nothing extra.
  • On average: 30 trading days on the 2-Step, 20 on the 1-Step, at up to 3 trades a day.
  • Both start 10% under the initial balance. After a winning day the 1-Step's floor rises with your balance and never comes back down; the 2-Step's stays at 90% of the start, which matters if you give back gains.
  • You don't hold through news or weekends, so the Swing type, which only the 2-Step offers, doesn't matter here.
  • The 1-Step's extra 10% outweighs its unrefunded €499 fee once the first Reward's profit is above $5,555 (10 × the fee at $1.1133 per euro). Yours is $6,000.
  • First Reward on $6,000 of profit: $4,800 on the 2-Step at 80% plus the €540 fee back, or $5,400 on the 1-Step at 90%.

Trades and days are averages at a fixed win rate and reward: a real run has streaks, so take them as the least it could take, not a forecast. Nothing here is a chance of passing. Fees are FTMO's list prices in euros; the deal price is for a Standard account, only if you don't already have one active.

FTMO's limit counts equity, so an open loss counts before you close it. Full losses at a fixed risk: a wider stop than planned leaves less room.

Read as text
  1. Each day FTMO sets a floor under that midnight's balance: 3% of the starting balance on the 1-Step, 5% on the 2-Step. Equity, open losses included, must stay above it.
  2. At 0.5% a trade, 5 full losses fit above the 1-Step's floor and 9 above the 2-Step's.
  3. Your worst day, 3 trades all lost, costs 1.5%: it stays above both floors.
  4. The Maximum Loss is 10% on both, but FTMO's own example differs: after midnight balances of $104,000 and $103,000 on $100,000, the 1-Step's floor trails up to $94,000 and stays there, while the 2-Step's stays at $90,000.

Both have no time limit, and both reset the daily limit at 00:00 CE(S)T: see the FTMO daily reset time on your own clock. On 2026-10-29 the $100,000 card also showed €439 (2-Step) and €399 (1-Step) for a Standard account, to buyers who don't already have one active. Both challenges lead to an FTMO Account that can join the Scaling Plan; the Instant Account, a third route with no evaluation, can't.

Worked example: the calculator's opening numbers

$100,000, 0.5% risk, up to 3 trades a day, 45% wins at 2R.

Your average trade makes 0.5% × (0.45 × 2 − 0.55) = 0.175% of the account. The 1-Step's 10% takes about 58 trades, 20 trading days at 3 a day. The 2-Step's 10% and 5% take about 58 and 29 trades, 30 trading days with its minimum of 4 a phase.

A day of 3 full losses costs 1.5%: inside the 1-Step's 3% (5 losses fit) and the 2-Step's 5% (9 fit). A 2% best day is under half the target, so the 1-Step's Consistency rule asks for nothing extra. The first Reward on 6% ($6,000) pays $5,400 on the 1-Step and $4,800 plus the €540 fee back on the 2-Step; the 1-Step comes out ahead above $5,555, 10 times its €499 fee at 1.1133 dollars per euro.

So these numbers lean to the 1-Step: On average: 30 trading days on the 2-Step, 20 on the 1-Step, at up to 3 trades a day. Raise the risk to 1% with 4 trades a day and that day costs 4%, past the 1-Step's 3%, and the lean flips to the 2-Step.

How the calculator reads your numbers

Full losses, average trades, and the rules each number touches.

Daily room, the target, the best day and the first Reward

Daily room. Each loss is a full loss at your risk, and your worst day is your most trades a day, all losers. FTMO's daily limit counts equity, so an open loss counts too; leaving a stop wider than your risk makes the real room smaller than the count shown.

The target. Average trades are the target divided by your average trade, rounded up. Days are those trades spread at your most trades a day, never fewer than the 2-Step's 4 a phase. A real run has streaks: these are the least it could take on average, not a forecast, and nothing here is a chance of passing.

The best day. On the 1-Step your best day can be at most 50% of total profit, losing days included (orders from 12 October 2026, and accounts merged since), so the profit it needs is the larger of 10% and twice your best day. Missing it isn't a breach: you keep trading until it holds.

The first Reward. Both fees are paid up front; only the 2-Step's comes back. So the 1-Step's 90% beats the 2-Step's 80% once a tenth of the profit is more than the 1-Step's fee.

What it doesn't model

The rules that depend on how your trades unfold.

The trailing floor, scaling and Swing
  • The 1-Step's trailing Maximum Loss. It rises with your best end-of-day balance and never comes back down, so after a run-up a give-back can breach it where the 2-Step's static floor wouldn't. The FTMO 1-Step rules post replays your days through it.
  • Later Rewards. The 2-Step's split rises to 90% under the Scaling Plan or the Premium Programme, so the gap closes after the first cycles; the FTMO payout calculator runs a cycle.
  • Swing. Swing's leverage is up to 1:30 on forex instead of 1:100, so check your lot sizes still fit. The FTMO Swing account post has the details.

Whichever you pick

Both challenges end on the same two lines: the daily floor and the Maximum Loss. We sell the Prop Firm Challenge Toolkit, a TradingView indicator that shows your daily-loss, drawdown and profit-target buffers in dollars on your chart, from the rules and balance you enter. Your FTMO Account MetriX remains the source of truth. Every rule above is in our FTMO rules guide.

Common questions

What is the difference between the FTMO 1-Step and 2-Step?

The 2-Step has two phases, a 10% then a 5% profit target with at least 4 trading days each, a 5% Maximum Daily Loss and a static 10% Maximum Loss, pays 80% (90% once scaled) and refunds the fee with the first Reward. The 1-Step has one 10% target and no minimum days, a 3% daily loss, a 10% Maximum Loss that trails the end-of-day balance, a 50% Consistency rule, pays 90% and doesn't refund the fee. Only the 2-Step comes as a Swing account.

FTMO 1-Step rules, rule by rule

Is the FTMO 1-Step or 2-Step easier?

It depends on how you trade. At 0.5% risk a day of 3 full losses costs 1.5%, inside both daily limits; at 1% risk with 4 trades a day the same day costs 4%, past the 1-Step's 3% and inside the 2-Step's 5%. A best day above 5% of the account makes the 1-Step ask for more than its 10% target, because the best day can be at most half of total profit.

Which FTMO challenge pays more?

The 1-Step pays 90% of profit and keeps its fee; the 2-Step pays 80% and refunds its fee with the first Reward. The 1-Step's extra 10% outweighs its unrefunded fee once the first Reward's profit is above 10 times that fee: €4,990 on a $100,000 account at the €499 list price, about $5,555 at the ECB's rate of 28 October 2026 ($1.1133 per euro).

Does the FTMO 1-Step have a minimum number of trading days?

No. FTMO's Comparison Table shows no minimum trading days on the 1-Step or the Instant Account. The 2-Step needs at least 4 trading days in each phase, so at least 8 before the FTMO Account; a trading day is one on which you open at least one position, 00:00 to 23:59:59 CE(S)T.

How much do the FTMO 1-Step and 2-Step cost?

On ftmo.com on 2026-10-29, in euros: the 2-Step €89, €250, €345, €540 and €1,080 for $10,000 to $200,000, and the 1-Step €79, €199, €319, €499 and €999. The $100,000 card also showed €439 and €399 for a Standard account, to buyers without one active. Only the 2-Step's fee comes back, with the first Reward.
