The Maximum Loss Limit trails your highest close and locks at $0; your first payout sets it to $0 for good.
or 30 micros (1 mini = 10 micros). The "Below $1,500" row of Topstep's Scaling Plan, measured on the XFA balance, which starts at $0. Next: 4 minis from a close at $1,500, $1,500 away.
3 minis or 30 micros. One ES risks $400 and one MES $40 at this stop. Today's allowance is the limit, not the stop.

Topstep 100K: Trading Combine (evaluation), 10 minis or 100 micros; Express Funded Account (XFA), 3, 4, 5 and 10 minis by the XFA balance, which starts at $0 (Below $1,500: 3; $1,500 - $2,000: 4; $2,000 - $3,000: 5; Above $3,000: 10), up to 100 micros; Live Funded Account, 3, 5 and 10 minis by the tradable balance ($5,000 or below: 3; $10,000 or below: 5; Standard (above $10,000): 10), up to 10 micros. Read from help.topstep.com on 2026-10-23.
Trading Combine (evaluation): up to 100 micros (CL/MCL: 6 minis or 60 micros; GC/MGC: 6 minis or 60 micros), Express Funded Account (XFA): up to 100 micros (CL/MCL: 6 minis or 60 micros; GC/MGC: 6 minis or 60 micros) and Live Funded Account: up to 10 micros (CL/MCL: 6 minis or 6 micros; GC/MGC: 6 minis or 10 micros). Ten micros count as one mini against the cap ("1 Mini = 10 Micro contracts"); Micro Silver counts as 2 micros, and Micro Bitcoin and Micro Ether are capped at mini-equivalent sizes. Topstep says the 10:1 micro-to-mini ratio isn't available on Live, and its Live restricted-product caps count micros one for one (MGC 5/10/15), though its Labs page prints "5 mini / 50 micros" for a Labs Live account. The calculator counts a micro as one contract, the stricter reading.
On Topstep's Scaling Plan, the contracts follow the XFA balance, which starts at $0: Below $1,500, 3 minis; $1,500 - $2,000, 4 minis; $2,000 - $3,000, 5 minis; Above $3,000, 10 minis. Topstep publishes the rows only as a chart image, which we read on the day. "Your max contracts do not increase mid-session": a higher row starts with the next session, and a payout that drops the balance into a lower row lowers the limit.
On Topstep's Live position limits, the contracts follow the tradable balance: $5,000 or below, 3 minis; $10,000 or below, 5 minis; Standard (above $10,000), 10 minis. Position limits stay at 5/10/15 lots until $100,000 of Live profit (Dynamic Live Risk Expansion Tier 4, up to 30 lots; then up to 50, 70 and 100). The Daily Loss Limit starts at $2,000/$3,000/$4,500 and rises $500 at $15k, $20k and $50k of Live profit; the calculator keeps the starting amount, the stricter reading.
Trading Combine (evaluation): Max loss: $3,000, trailing the highest close, locking at $100,000. Daily loss limit: $2,000, optional, ending the day, not the account. Express Funded Account (XFA): Max loss: $3,000, trailing the highest close, locking at $0; a payout request moves it to $0. Daily loss limit: $2,000, optional, ending the day, not the account. Live Funded Account: Max loss: a fixed line at a $1,000 balance. Daily loss limit: set by the row.
