How Many Contracts Can I Trade on Topstep 150K?

Topstep 150K: Trading Combine (evaluation), 15 minis or 150 micros; Express Funded Account (XFA), 3, 4, 5, 10 or 15 minis by the XFA balance; Live Funded Account, 3, 5 or 15 minis by the tradable balance. Read from help.topstep.com on 2026-10-23.

Updated 23 October 2026. Runs in your browser; nothing you type is uploaded.

It starts at $0; a minus sign for a balance below it. Today's limit is set from it.

The Maximum Loss Limit trails your highest close and locks at $0; your first payout sets it to $0 for good.

Contracts allowed today
3 minis today

or 30 micros (1 mini = 10 micros). The "Below $1,500" row of Topstep's Scaling Plan, measured on the XFA balance, which starts at $0. Next: 4 minis from a close at $1,500, $1,500 away.

Fits one 8-point ES stop

3 minis or 30 micros. One ES risks $400 and one MES $40 at this stop. Today's allowance is the limit, not the stop.

Stops until the limits
  • At 3 minis ($1,200 a stop): 2 stops before the daily loss limit; 3 stops before the max loss line, and the next one reaches it.
  • Max loss line −$4,500 ($4,500 under the highest close, locking at $0): $4,500 of room. Daily loss limit $3,000, which ends the day, not the account.

  • Trading Combine (evaluation)
150K: 15 minis or 150 micros. Max loss: $4,500, trailing the highest close, locking at $150,000. Daily loss limit: $3,000, optional, ending the day, not the account.
Micros: Ten micros count as one mini against the cap ("1 Mini = 10 Micro contracts"); Micro Silver counts as 2 micros, and Micro Bitcoin and Micro Ether are capped at mini-equivalent sizes. The Combine has a flat cap and no Scaling Plan; the Scaling Plan starts in the Express Funded Account. The Daily Loss Limit is optional, picked at checkout; hitting it ends the session and isn't a rule violation.Current restrictions on Risk Adjustments (edited 2026-10-21), $50K/$100K/$150K: CL, QM, RB, HO and GC at 3/6/9, MCL and MGC at 30/60/90 micros, SIL and MHG at 2/5/7, and SI, HG and PL not at all. The calculator applies the CL and GC rows on those markets; in the XFA they are a ceiling, and the Scaling Plan can set a lower one.For the 10 minutes around Tier 1 news (CPI, FOMC, NFP, PPI) there are no new positions in equity-index and metal minis; new positions in MES, M2K, MYM, MNQ and MGC are limited to 3, 6 or 9 contracts on a $50K, $100K or $150K (lower by Scaling Plan row in the XFA), and in MHG and SIL to 2, 5 or 7.Sources: Trading Combine® Parameters, edited 2026-09-24; What is the Scaling Plan?, edited 2026-07-16; What is the Maximum Loss Limit?, edited 2026-09-18; Daily Loss Limit in the Trading Combine and Express Funded Account, edited 2026-06-30; Risk Adjustments: High Risk/High Volatility, edited 2026-10-21
  • Express Funded Account (XFA)
150K: 3–15 minis by the scaling plan, up to 15 minis or 150 micros. Max loss: $4,500, trailing the highest close, locking at $0; a payout request moves it to $0. Daily loss limit: $3,000, optional, ending the day, not the account.
Express Funded Account (XFA), 150K: Topstep's Scaling Plan, rows on the XFA balance, which starts at $0, minis / micros

Micros: Ten micros count as one mini against the cap ("1 Mini = 10 Micro contracts"); Micro Silver counts as 2 micros, and Micro Bitcoin and Micro Ether are capped at mini-equivalent sizes.Topstep publishes the rows only as a chart image, which we read on the day. "Your max contracts do not increase mid-session": a higher row starts with the next session, and a payout that drops the balance into a lower row lowers the limit. At $2,000, $3,000 and $4,500 the chart puts the balance in the lower row, or in two rows (the 100K and 150K at $2,000, the 150K at $3,000), while Topstep's restricted-product example on Risk Adjustments treats the round number as the higher row. The calculator takes the lower row, the stricter reading. $1,500 is in the $1,500 - $2,000 row.The Maximum Loss Limit starts $2,000/$3,000/$4,500 under the $0 start, trails closes and locks at $0; the first payout sets it to $0. The Daily Loss Limit is optional, added at checkout or activation.Current restrictions on Risk Adjustments (edited 2026-10-21), $50K/$100K/$150K: CL, QM, RB, HO and GC at 3/6/9, MCL and MGC at 30/60/90 micros, SIL and MHG at 2/5/7, and SI, HG and PL not at all. • Live Funded Account
150K: 3–15 minis by the scaling plan, up to 15 minis or 15 micros. Max loss: a fixed line at a $1,000 balance. Daily loss limit: set by the row.
Live Funded Account, 150K: Topstep's Live position limits, rows on the tradable balance, minis / micros

Micros: Topstep says the 10:1 micro-to-mini ratio isn't available on Live, and its Live restricted-product caps count micros one for one (MGC 5/10/15), though its Labs page prints "5 mini / 50 micros" for a Labs Live account. The calculator counts a micro as one contract, the stricter reading.Position limits stay at 5/10/15 lots until $100,000 of Live profit (Dynamic Live Risk Expansion Tier 4, up to 30 lots; then up to 50, 70 and 100). The Daily Loss Limit starts at $2,000/$3,000/$4,500 and rises $500 at $15k, $20k and $50k of Live profit; the calculator keeps the starting amount, the stricter reading.A tradable balance at or below $10,000 caps the account at 5 lots and a $2,000 Daily Loss Limit, at or below $5,000 at 3 lots and $1,000. A drop applies from the next session; the standard limits return only after the Friday close, so until then enter the lower balance.Current restrictions on Live: CL, QM, RB, HO, MCL and GC at 3/6/9, MGC at 5/10/15, SIL and MHG at 2/4/6; the calculator applies the CL and GC rows on those markets.Below $1,000 the account may be liquidated and closed at the end of the day; Topstep publishes no trailing loss amount for Live. Method and privacy

Method: Topstep's caps, scaling rows and loss limits as its own pages word them, read 2026-10-23 (the newest page edit 2026-10-21). A scaling row, where a plan has one, comes from the last close (or the highest, where the firm keeps a row once reached); one stop-out has to leave the balance above the daily and max loss lines; where the firm's pages disagree, the notes name the reading taken. Slippage, commission and news-time caps are left out.

These tools calculate from your inputs, supported historical records or explicitly labelled teaching examples. They do not verify a live account, predict future returns or confirm that a broker or prop-firm rule has been met. Missing costs, floating losses and changed market conditions can materially change outcomes. Trading can lose the capital committed to it; check the stated method and your account specifications.
