What the official sources say
Kenya's Capital Markets Authority (CMA) licenses online foreign exchange trading, which it describes as internet-based trading of foreign exchange, including contracts for difference. A non-dealing online forex broker links clients to the forex market for a commission or a mark-up in spreads and does not make markets; a dealing broker trades as principal and market maker; a money manager manages clients' online forex portfolios for a fee based on assets under management.
The CMA's licensee directory lists non-dealing brokers, dealing brokers and online forex money managers as separate categories. The CMA has cautioned that investors who put money into unregulated products offered by unlicensed or unapproved entities risk losing it with no recourse under the capital markets framework, and asks them to confirm a firm's name against its list of licensed and approved entities.
